Diving the Navy Tug
One of our favorite wrecks to take Open Water Divers to is the Nashua Navy Tug, located near Honolulu on Oahu. It is a massive 109 ft (33 m) long vessel that has sunk to a depth of approximately 65 ft (20 m). It was purposely sunk in 2012 to serve as an artificial reef. Aside from being home to a plethora of marine life, it also acts as a training site for the U.S. Navy. There are locked bins outside the ship that contain the training supplies used by the Navy.
If you like sharks, then this is a great site to see some whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus). Even if marine wildlife isn't your thing, this wreck is massive and contains plenty of swim-throughs and penetrations. Whether you are relatively new to diving or are an advanced tec diver, you will enjoy this site. If you would like to see more pictures of the Navy Tug, then check out our Photos page!
